JUST AI has developed a range of interrelated projects to understand and transform the understanding and practice of data and AI ethics research in the UK and beyond.

To understand how data and AI ethics research has unfolded, we mapped publications by UK scholars using multiple methods, which showed how topics, methods, and influence consolidated.

To create and sustain space for perspectives not well represented in past data and AI ethics publications we created a fellowship for research and creative work using racial justice perspectives, integrated with the Ada Lovelace Institute.
To build new research relationships on emerging issues in data and AI ethics research we created space for working groups to convene, discuss, write and commission writing and creative research. An Ethics in Practice working group convened in 2020, the Rights, Access and Refusal working group has convened from 2021 to 2022 and Deep Sustainability has convened throughout 2022.
JUST AI convened their network in various ways throughout the years to investigate a variety of themes and continue developing deeply meaningful ways of working. In 2021, we hosted a salon featuring commissioned pieces of fiction on AI futures and a series of talks on prototyping ethical futures. In 2022, we focused on repair and held distributed research seminars with each of our working groups.
